NT Public Sector job freeze lifted
CLP FINALLY SEES LIGHT OVER PUBLIC SERVICE JOBS FREEZE
Public sector unions have welcomed the CLP government’s back flip on ceasing an unnecessary jobs freeze.
Unions NT Secretary Alan Paton said it is not before time that the NT Government is now paying attention to the very employees it relies upon to provide services and support to the community.
Non-renewal of temporary and contract employment and a freeze on recruitment, senior executive contracts and spending since August 2012 has hurt workers, the business sector, the NT economy, regional and remote localities and the provision of valuable community services across the NT.
Morale across the NT public sector and community has been rock bottom for most of the past 9 months and the four members of the faceless CLP hit squad employed by Terry Mills have cut over 600 jobs an savaged business and community confidence when they could have relied upon natural attrition and turnover to achieve the same result without the pain.
Public servants have been under a veil of fear wondering who will be next in the departure lounge, said Mr Paton.
