GST CASH GRAB BY THE BIG STATES TO HURT TERRITORIANS
The WA Premier, Colin Barnett is in Darwin complaining about Mining Taxes and lobbying Terry Mills to hand over massive amounts of GST funding if CLP win the NT election in August.
If the Liberal States have their way the NT will lose significant amount of GST revenue and Territorians will not have comparable services as enjoyed down south.
“Over 70% of the Territories funding come from Federal GST revenue. The Territory can’t afford to lose this money, this money supports our schools, hospitals and the indigenous out bush.” said Heinz Schmitt, from Unions NT. “We don’t have the population base or other means of raising funds that the big southern states do.”
“If the GST is divided up under the Liberal model it will rip millions of dollars from the NT’s budget.” said Mr Schmitt, “where then will revenue come from Cutting services? Raising taxes? Selling assets? Making all Territorians pay more for the basic necessities?
The Liberal State Premiers are finalising a deal that will that will see GST funding based on population which will slashed revenue from the Territory budget. A review panel will hand down its decision in September.
Barnett says he is close to agreement with the other Big Liberal States; will Terry followed his Liberal mates has he done the hand shake deal with Barnett?
